Breaking apart

Handkea utriforme getting ready to send it's spores out into the world and smelling kind of bad.

Poison mushrooms everywhere!

A tiny trickle of rain seems to have been all that was needed to cause a riot of Amanita phalloides to fruit en masse at Santa Rosa Rural Cemetery this week. Black and white really doesn't do this mushroom justice.

The cap is a wonderful metallic yellow bronze color.

I found these in groups around the oldest live oaks (Quercus agrifolia).

I've been waiting for you!

These fruit every year in Santa Rosa Rural Cemetery. This one is brand new and is 16cm across.
