Lovely in lavender

I was lucky enough to find this Cortinarius before the spores turned the gills brown. Finding this intoxicating color under layers of decaying leaves and dirt and a rather plainly colored cap never fails to take my breath away.

  2. Thanks, Claire. I don't know where you are but I've discovered that these mushrooms are extremely common in the mixed woods I walk in. However, they hide under the leaves and duff and are only found after it rains and the leaves are mashed down, or by learning to recognize the slight lumps in the duff that tell you a large mushroom is hiding underneath. Now that I've learned to do that I find them everywhere!
